Minecraft Chess Set

Description

During my second semester of my Junior Year in high school, I took advanced ceramics. Our main project was to create a chess set. I almost immediately decided to make a Minecraft themed set and began designing. The project took nearly the entire semester and I spent the more time on my set than anybody did on their own (which left me in the dust during the last few weeks of school when I had to quickly throw together a pot and a paperweight to finish the class.)

Anyways, it was worth the work :)

I made sure that all of the pieces on each side have some similarity to each other:

Pawn: grass block vs obsidian block (blocks)
Rook: stone house vs nether portal (structures)
Knight: pig vs spider (can be ridden (the spider can be ridden by skeletons on rare occasions))
Bishop: snow golem vs skeleton (can shoot stuff)
Queen: TNT on a golden pedestal vs creeper with golden crown (explode)
King: Steve vs enderman (can move blocks)

Also, the board is cracked in half like that because we had to make the boards in two pieces or else they would actually crack in the kiln.

I've played with this set many many times with my brother and with friends. I've actually improved while using it because before I had it there was barely a reason for me to play chess.

*Edit: Changed the Logo in the center of the picture. I thought the old one was ugly and hard to read.

You definitely have a bright future, putting this together. Figuring out the similarities, the details, craftsmanship... If you made and sold chess sets like this (based on games or even just themed) I would be adding to my chess collection. (Sadly, I only own a couple of sets, since most are really expensive... )
